Design Board :: A Client's Loft Area

I've loved working on this space! 

My client's boys love to play video games in the loft,  but they also wanted it to serve a dual purpose as a place for guests when the other guest rooms are full. It's outside the door to their Master Suite, which has soft blue walls and can be seen when looking up from the entry way to this room. With that in mind, this was the area I designed for their family.

In the corner bookcase, they can mount a TV for gaming, hide games and accessories in the storage baskets, and the boys have a comfy spot to sit on those fabulous chevron floor pillows.

Although the boys probably won't describe them with that exact wording. ha 

They can read with their boys on the daybed amongst the comfy pillows, yet it serves it's purpose for guests when needed. As for the colors, they coordinate nicely with the other surrounding rooms, and are very soothing for overnight guests. I loved creating this space to meet multiple needs for this family.

Chiang Mai

In the midst of all the projects going on around our house,

my escape from the craziness has been working on my latest client's design board.

Her inspiration is Schumacher's Chiang Mai print, and

I have truly had a wonderful time pulling all of the elements together.

With her floor plan you can be in the living room and 

see through the kitchen into the breakfast room.

I included the items for all three rooms so she could see how they

complemented each other.

I love the different patterns & prints, Oriental accents, textures,

and mix of metals! Seeing it all in her home will be even better!

Dijon Dreaming (updates)

A few months ago I posted this
Client Inspiration Board:

Dijon Dreaming

Julie & Evan Master by peaceofhome 


I created this inspiration board for some of our dear friends who live in Austin.
Julie is a self-claimed "non spender of money when it comes to clothes and house decor"
Well, she asked the right person for help!
After we picked the color scheme she gave me creative freedom to choose the decor elements,
which made the process so much fun!
 I got started by designing the Inspiration Board, shopped for items online,
then we made a weekend of it, went for a visit, and found even more great items on our shopping trip!

Here is the progress that's been made so far...

BEFORE

changes made:
*cleaner, simpler lines
*removed the side table/ small lamp which were crowding the space
*added a floor lamp with a mustard shade to keep the light for reading
*tossed in a few decorative pillows to bring the white from the bedding
across the room and to tie in the mustard accents
*added a small basket on the right for holding books

the dresser went from a light brown

to a peaceful grey with knobs that pop!

changes:

*de-cluttered the surface, but kept their favorite things.

*removed the wall clock that was too small for the space

*willow branches in the yummy dijon vase added a natural element to the room

finally their bed received some dijon and grey treatment, too.

we shopped around on saturday and found those great fabrics,
then i sewed pillow covers and the bolster pillow.

along with a pillow cover tutorial!)

love those lamps?
found them on clearance at crate and barrel for just $40/ea!

and notice the window treatments?
we took down the sheets that had been on the windows since before they purchased the house
and added these grey drapes from Ikea for only $40!

they add such great contrast to the light walls and bedding.

This room transformation ended up being rather thrifty,

from the great deal on items listed above, to repurposing the dresser,

making the pillow covers, and shopping at the fav Home Goods for throw pillows, etc.

We still have a few things left to do...

*decor on the wall above the bed

*rug at the foot of the bed

*mirror above the dresser

...but she has a baby due in the next few weeks!

So these tasks obviously got bumped to the back burner,

and all her attention was focused on her sweet baby's nursery!

but someday those finishing touches will be made in their master bedroom.

Until then, I am glad to know that she and her hubby

"sleep better in a decorated room."

dijon dreaming

Last Thursday, I headed to Austin to help our friends Evan and Julie
decorate their home!
They definitely have a good eye for selecting beautiful pieces of furniture,
they just wanted some help in the areas of color and decor.
When asked, Julie said she wanted her home to feel "warm, comfortable, and classic."
She loves warm colors and is drawn to them, but wasn't sure how to incorporate that into her decor.
The combination that I picked for their master included a warm neutral and color,
mustard yellow & gray!

Those serve as a great base for adding different pops of colors throughout the year, too.
You could throw in some turquoise in the spring & summer or rusty red in the fall,
and accents of natural green would add a fabulous touch all year round.

Home Goals & Projects for 2011

Over the first few days of this new year, 

I have been contemplating what I hope to accomplish throughout 2011.

Now, it's time to write them down and make official goals!

In no particular order, here are my top goals for 2011!

{1}

CHANGES TO OUR HALLWAY

add paneling on the walls,

hang large framed photographs,

and two of these dreamy runners down the hall.

{2}

BLEACH WOODEN CHAIRS

research and bleach out the wood,

recover with brown linen fabric,

add nail head trim.

{3}

COMPLETE PROJECT::OFFICE

finish eclectic wall display, 

purchase new desk chair &

wooden filing cabinets,

add finishing touches.

{4}

UPDATE KITCHEN

paint cabinets white,
new countertops,
new lighting fixtures.

The colors of those walls are the same as the ones in our kitchen. 

Love how that picture gives me a sneak peak at the impact painting the cabinets will make!

CHANGE NURSERY TO "BIG BOY" ROOM

here are my beginning ideas and color scheme.

There you have it, those goals should keep me pretty busy,
still allowing time for my spur of the moment ideas, too!
